The Course
High blood pressure is the most common, modifiable driver of heart, brain, and kidney disease—and we’ll demystify it from cell to clinic. You’ll explore pathophysiology, accurate blood pressure measurement (office, home, and ambulatory), risk stratification, and current guidelines, then practice building treatment plans that blend lifestyle prescriptions with smart pharmacology. Interactive cases cover special populations (pregnancy, diabetes, CKD, older adults), medication selection and titration, and how to troubleshoot resistant hypertension.
Expect practical skills you can use the same day: coaching patients on sodium and sleep, choosing medications based on comorbidities, and using digital tools for remote monitoring. You’ll learn to communicate risk clearly, boost adherence with motivational interviewing, design team-based workflows, and spot hypertensive urgencies and emergencies before they escalate. Ideal for clinicians, trainees, and community health professionals, this experience translates directly into better outcomes in primary care, telehealth, pharmacies, and population health programs.
What you will learn
I started this course after seeing how many beginners felt lost about high blood pressure and needed a clear, friendly roadmap. It’s carefully designed so each short lesson builds on the last—starting with what the numbers mean, moving to accurate home monitoring, then medication basics and realistic lifestyle steps you can actually stick with. You’ll get bite-sized videos, simple visuals, checklists, and templates for tracking readings, meals, and activity so you can see progress quickly. The structure is clean and predictable: weekly goals, mini-quizzes to lock in the essentials, and a personal action plan you refine as you go. Everything is evidence-based, jargon-free, and focused on quick wins that build confidence, making it a helpful, well-organized starting point for taking control of your blood pressure.
Curriculum
Your instructor
I’m Dr. Columbus Batiste, the Healthy Heart Doc—an interventional cardiologist with nearly two decades treating cardiovascular disease and hypertension. Since 2006 I’ve performed thousands of procedures and interpreted thousands of heart tests, giving me a clear view of how high blood pressure drives stroke, kidney failure, and heart attacks, especially in underserved communities. In HIP: Hypertension Immersion Program, I turn that frontline experience into practical, evidence-based strategies you can use right away.
This work is personal—I lost my father to diabetes and my father‑in‑law to complications of high blood pressure—which fuels my commitment to prevention and health equity. My teaching blends rigorous science with real‑world coaching in nutrition, activity, sleep, stress, and medications when needed, so you leave with clear frameworks, simple tools, and confidence to drive results. Together we’ll protect healthspan, lower blood pressure, and empower each one to teach one.
